KUCHING: A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) inked yesterday between Sarawak Information Systems (SAINS) and Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak for the specific areas of interests such as health, tourism, and transportation agreed that both parties is to make available a total of RM2 million over a 36 month-long duration for the implementation of the programme.
Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg witnessed the signing of the MOA and later the exchange of the inked documents in a special ceremony held at
his office at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.
The MOA is an agreement to conduct joint research, development, and implementation of a Digital Socio-Economy Platform To Improve Quality of Life and Productivity of Rural Communities in Sarawak.
The parties involved will jointly research, develop, and implement digital products and services for rural communities which has the potential to improve their quality of life and economic productivity.
The MOA was signed by SAINS CEO Dato Teo Tien Hiong and Swinburne Sarawak Deputy Vice-Chancellor and CEO Professor Janet Gregory.
Earlier on, SAINS also presented the state government with its latest awards and achievements won in 2016 and 2017, which included the Global Super Excellent Brand Leadership Excellent Award by the Asia Entrepreneur Alliance; an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) that acknowledged brands that had excelled over a period of time.
Their most recent award is the Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA), Best in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Platinum Award which recognises enterprises that practise CSR; SAINS has spent approximately RM15 million in the past decade on various CSR programmes.
SAINS also presented the Chief Minister with the SAINS Strategic Review 2007 – 2016 Report, which is carried out once every ten years by independent external consultants to benchmark SAINS’s overall position relative to the ICT industry at large.
