SALCRA urged to up productivity

KUCHING: Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA) is urged to produce at least 20 tons of palm oil per hectare and use the latest technology in farm management.

This call was made by Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during an Appreciation Dinner for Salcra former chairman, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu at Imperial Hotel here, last Friday.

Uggah who also chairman of SALCRA added that Sarawak still has plenty of undeveloped and abandoned land.

“Our target is to increase the income of our scheme participants to at least RM4,000 per month.

“Hence, we need to improve productivity and reduce production cost after the participants joined SALCRA,” he said.

Uggah stressed that Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg will continue the legacy of the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem to develop the rural economy in order to close the gap between the urban and rural populace.

“I urged SALCRA management to conduct a research on the strengths and weaknesses in managing the of oil palm estates,” he said.

Touching on Jabu’s leadership of 25 years in SALCRA, Uggah said Jabu has safeguarded the interests of the Dayak community in the state which is a very challenging task to undertake.

“We hope he (Jabu) will continue to support and guide us especially me who has been appointed as the new chairman of SALCRA Jaya Sdn. Bhd.

“We will also propose to rename the SALCRA building at Kota Samarahan to Jabu’s name. We will submit the proposal to the Chief Minister for his consideration and approval,” said Uggah.

During the dinner Jabu was presented with a self-portrait specially painted by an artist from China as a token of appreciation for his excellence service with SALCRA.

Also present were Minister of Youth, Sport and Solidarity, Dato Sri Micheal Manyin Jawong, Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Malcolm Mussen Lamoh, General Manager of SALCRA, Datu Vasco Sabat Singkang and 300 members of Salcra Farm Development Committee.
