KUCHING: A salesman lodged a police report against Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Chong Chieng Jen for defamation.

The salesman, surnamed Chin, aged 49, from Taman Tungshi here, said he was surfing his Facebook page and saw a life stream press conference given by Chong on Dec 30 last year.

He told police that Chong specifically named him as being involved in smuggling diesel and cooking oil and was declared bankrupt by the court.

Chin said the press conference went viral in the social media and had caused a negative impact on him and his family.

He said his family had repeatedly asked him if the accusation was true, adding that wherever he went, he was questioned too by his clients and business partner. He thus lost some business opportunities and suffered from financial damage due to the fake statement.

Even Facebook comments on him were negative after the people viewed the video.
