Samarahan Bike Challenge to be held end of March

KUCHING: Samarahan Bike Challenge, one of the biggest bicycle racing events in Sarawak will be back for its 6th Edition from March 30-31 this year.

Samarahan District Office and the Divisional Tourism Task Group (DTTG) will co-organise the event in collaboration with Sarawak Cycling Association and supported by Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry.

Organised for the first time in 2013, the event themed “Till The Last Ride” consisted of five main categories which offer cash prizes totalling RM11,000, said Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

They are Elite Male (42km), Veteran Allstar (36km), Sarawak Closed (42km), Junior Male (30km) and Ladies (30km).

The race will start and finish at Summer Mall in Kota Samarahan, he added at a press conference this morning.

The competition is open to all Malaysians, including foreigners and is targetting some 200 participants.

Various side activities will also be held, including exhibition by various government agencies such as Police, Immigration Department, Civil Defence Department, Anti-Narcostics Department, Fire and Rescue Services Department (Bomba).

Other activities are ‘Push Bike’ competition for children below six years old, ‘Megathon’ , table tennis, E-Sport and singing performances by invited artistes.

Also present were Samarahan Resident representative Louis Andria Brieng, Samarahan District Officer Mohd Ainnie Wahab, Samarahan District Police chief Lee Chong Chern, Samarahan Civil Defence chief Alias Bujang and Samarahan Rela chief Louis Libau Lawrence.
