KUCHING: The Samarahan Country Club (SCC) will become a full-fledged Family Club soon.

The newly-elected SCC President Richard Song Swee Jin disclosed this during the Hari Raya Golf and Open House in the club premises at Kota Samarahan near here last Saturday.

Towards the end, collaborations with Sarawak Club would be actively undertaken, apart from seeking more affiliations with domestic and overseas golf clubs, he elaborated.

“We have met Sarawak Club President Dato Richard Wee and committee members over lunch and they are willing to consider our request for financial assistance to make the club a better place for our members,” Song added.

The safety aspects of SCC will also be looked into such as building rails as there are many golfers from amongst the senior citizens, apart from improving the gym for members use.

Other plans are the setting up of two table tennis tables, children playground, as well as organising activities for non-playing golf family members.

The drainage system will be cleared of debris, especially near Hole 3 and Hole 17, while Hole 5 and 15 will be upgraded.

SCC would seek corporate sponsors for the tee-boxes of the 18-hole golf course and encourage staff and students of UNIMAS and UiTM to patronise the clubhouse and banquet facilities to generate revenue besides organising family activities and functions.

SCC’s next competition is the Inter Team Match Play from 13 August until 17 September.

At the end of the function Richard Song gave away prizes to the winners of the respective categories, together with Deputy President Simon Sinang Bada and SCC Club Captain Anthony Tan.

The winners of the nett title went to Lawrence Law Kiing Chiew, followed by Joseph Blandoi, Francis King, Jahar Guttom, Gerald Tan, George Garau, Zehegkiel Pince, Gordon Tang, Mastika Lamat, and Samuel Tiew.

The gross champion was the Sarawak Golf Association President Hoan Kee Hock, followed by Richard Sim and Sim Khee Hian.
