KUCHING: The 15th edition of the Sarawak Craft Festival 2018 saw 118 handicraft entrepreneurs throughout the country exhibiting their products from 24 October to 4 November 2018.
The festival is held in conjunction with the Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018, involving two annual events, namely Dragon Boat Race and Sarawak Regatta 2018.
Themed ‘Beli Kraf Malaysia’, the festival which is organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, acts as a platform for handicraft entrepreneurs throughout the nation to market their products.
Apart from that, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia has been given the honour to produce the official ‘Batik’ attire for Sarawak’s Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Brunei Royals, the Chief Minister, State ministers and also the organiser for the Sarawak Regatta – Kuching Waterfront Festival 2018.
The official ‘Batik’ attire will showcase a flower design based on the ‘Normah’ orchid, or scientifically known as Phaelaenosis violacea, which is the official flower for Sarawak.
The 10-day festival will feature craft product sales, craft education activity, craft demonstration, including providing the public with an exposure on the process of making handicraft such as beads, ceramic, wood, and many others.
Among the participating state in the Sarawak Craft Festival 2018 are Sabah, Terengganu, Kelantan, Selangor, Melaka, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and also Sarawak.
The non-government organisation (NGO) such as Sarawak Energy Berhad and World Wildlife (WWF) Federation will also be involved in the demonstration activity throughout the festival.
The festival is open to public from 10 am to 10 pm daily.
