KUCHING: Sarawak Energy received two Gold Class II awards at the 36th Occupational Safety and Health Awards organised by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The awards recognised the 108MW Batang Ai hydroelectric power plant and 25MW Limbang diesel-powered station under the Utilities Sectors category for very good management and practices in occupational safety and health.
This marks the second consecutive year that Limbang Power Station has been awarded Gold Class II by MSOSH. A Gold Class I was awarded to project consortium General Electric-Sinohydro for Sarawak Energy’s Kidurong Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant (CCGP) under the Construction & Engineering Construction Sectors category.
The MSOSH Award is presented annually to companies in Malaysia with outstanding occupational safety and health performance. A panel of auditors ensures the awards are objective through stringent documentation requirements and site verification audits.
“We want to embed a proactive safety culture in the organisation to ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives – no harm to people and no damage to the environment. These awards for Batang Ai and Limbang power stations are external validation of our commitment. Congratulations to GE-Sinohydro Consortium for being awarded a Gold Class 1 for the Kidurong CCGP Project,” said Sarawak Energy Group Chief Executive Officer Sharbini Suhaili.
Sarawak Energy and GE-Sinohydro Consortium recently celebrated 1,000,000 man-hours without lost time injury (LTI) for the Kidurong CCGP Project which is set to be one of the world’s most efficient combined cycle power plants in its class when construction is completed. Present at the award ceremony with the team from Batang Ai HEP and Limbang Power Station were Polycarp Wong, Vice President for Hydro and Su MouLeh General Manager for Gas.
