KUCHING: The Sarawak Foundation (Yayasan Sarawak) aim to win five gold medals in the upcoming 13th Inter State Foundation Sports Carnival or Pesaya.

The handing over of state’s colours to the team was performed by Deputy State Secretary, Datu Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, who is also the foundation’s deputy chairman yesterday, a symbolic ceremony to uplift the athletes morale and fighting spirit in the sports festival to be held in Langkawi, Kedah from Feb 15 to 22.

The state team will participate in 14 categories namely badminton, netball, tenpin bowling, takraw, ping pong , carrom, golf, futsal (veteran and open category), darts, beach volleyball (men and women), football, beach volleyball and petanque.

The team which comprise a total of 80 athletes, including the secretariat team from the Sarawak Foundation club will be led by  its Chef de Mission, Zamhari Saidi .

Based on their previous record in Pesaya, the Sarawak Foundation aimed to repeat their success in women’s tenpin bowling (individual) and football while they want to excel in futsal, badminton and darts.

The biennially carnival for the state foundations nationwide serves as a platform to foster national integration spirit and cooperation among the state   foundations throughout the country.

Sarawak Foundation recorded its best achievement in 2003 when they host the event in Samarahan where they finished  as the first runners-up.

Sarawak Foundation Club chairman Jolly Marikan said Sarawak would host the 14th edition of the biennial event in 2022 in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Sarawak Foundation.

Also present during the ceremony were Sarawak Foundation director, Azmi Bujang and foundation board member Datu William Lee Boon Tiong.
