Sarawak free to shape own fate under GPS

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawakians are now in a position to voice out their needs and concerns at the federal level after the forming of the new PH (Pakatan Harapan) Government.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman, Dato Peter Minos said Sarawak under GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) is free to shape and determine the fate and future of Sarawak.

“All this time we were controlled by the BN (Barisan Nasional),” said Minos during his opening speech of the MPKS’ Sarawak Independent Day celebration held at the MPKS garden, yesterday.

Touching on July 22, Minos said it is a historic day for Sarawak to have gained independence from the British colonial rule.

“We also take this day to remember who fought for our independence from the British such as Rosli Dhoby and Rentap,” he added.

Post independence, Sarawak once forming the Malaysian Federation he said is able to develop the state with its own effort and energy.

Also present was Kota Samarahan Resident, Ibrahim Lumpu who congratulated the organisers of the event.

The council, he said, has taken the initiative to hold the Lestari Run, which requires the participants to collect rubbish along the designated route which also instills the spirit of gotong-royong (mutual assists).
