SEBUYAU: Sarawak has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yunnan Province of China in order to become a gateway in producing Halal dairy products for Malaysia. The MoU was signed during a state promotion trip in China by the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment (MEITI) Representing the ministry was the Assistant Minister for Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) , Datuk Haji Julaihi Narawi.

“The MoU was signed as the next step for both Sarawak and Yunnan to work together on future projects, particularly the project. “Aside from that, this also enables us to identify foreign investors who are very much welcomed to invest in Sarawak,” Julaihi told a press conference held at the Sebuyau Sub District office on Saturday.

He disclosed that in the Yunnan cities of Kunming and Dali, the delegates from Sarawak visited two projects involving stem cell and dairy products. “In Dali, they produce such an immense amount of dairy products, including yoghurt up to 320 tonnes per day.

“They have adapted technology from Switzerland and their cattle originate from New Zealand and Australia. Since Dali is a place located 4,000 feet above the sea level, it is the best place to raise the cattle. “If we are able to get the project, the dairy products will be brought to Tanjung Manis and it will be our main project as part of the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub,” said Julaihi.

He added that the state delegates also visiteda number of food related industries that produced products for exports such as walnuts which could be brought to the Tanjung Manis halal hub as well. “These are some of the projects we have identified and will follow up.

We want them to come over to Sarawak as we have a Halal programme that is certified worldwide. “This is also part of our efforts to bring in more foreign investors to invest in our state,” said Julaihi.
