KUCHING: The State is targeting 77 gold medals for the upcoming SUKMA Games to be held next week in Perak.

“Our target is quite high, we hope to get 77 gold medals whereby the potential to become the overall champion will be realised if we manage to reach our target,” said Minister for Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during a visit to Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here yesterday.

On the state contingent’s preparations, Karim pointed out that the team has prepared for the upcoming games.

“Sarawak’s contingent has reached the maximum preparation, and are fully prepared for it.

“I feel very satisfied with the preparations which have been implemented since the previous SUKMA games finished. We also advocated SukSar (Sukan Sarawak) to select the athletes to represent the state in the upcoming SUKMA.

“These athletes will also be sent to international events to compete and improve themselves,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the swimming and diving events, Karim said that the state’s team will be the most competent team.
