BINTULU: Today, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg marks his second year in office as Sarawak Chief Minister.

His aspiration is to continue boosting the state’s economic development by using its vast resources.

“We must also make use of our local talents to transform Sarawak into an economic powerhouse in Malaysia,” he told reporters after attending the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Flag Rally at the Bintulu Civic Centre yesterday.

In order to achieve all these, there must be unity among the people, he stressed.

“My aspiration is also to continue the unfinished jobs laid down by the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem,” he said.

He added that the state government would continue its fight for Sarawak’s eroded rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Meanwhile, asked by reporters how GPS was going to ensure its acceptance by the society, Johari replied that he would leave it in the hands of the people.

“We have our own strategies and platform. So, the final decision is up to the people,” he said.

Asked what strategies GPS would undertake, Johari said he would let PH leaders  speculate.

Johari popularly known as Abang Jo was announced as the sixth Sarawak Chief Minister on Jan 13, 2017. He replaced the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem. As Chief Minister, Johari implemented polices on Sarawak digital economy and the sales tax on petroleum products.

He  also set up Petros and Dbos and allocated RM11.9 billion for this year’s State Budget, making it the biggest budget in the history of Sarawak.
