KUCHING: A total of 15 patients undergoing dialysis from four dialysis centres in the state received grants from the Sarawak Turf & Equestrian Club (STEC) Kidney Foundation, yesterday.

The patients are from CHKMUS MAA Medicare Kidney Charity Dialysis Centre,  NKF-KAS-Rotary Centre, Sibu Kidney Foundation and MRC Dialysis Centre Miri.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian who was present during the event thanked the foundation for being able to assist the patients while waiting for the subsidy for their dialysis treatment by the Ministry of Health.

“And in moving forward, it is also important to educate the public so we would not go into kidney failure.

“Because to make treatment for kidney failure,  we do have the technology but it is not something that we want to go through in our life.

“Therefore, patients of dialysis are urged to help us spread the message because the patients have the opportunity to share with others why we should not go through kidney failure and dialysis,” he said at Chabo,  Jalan Tabuan here yesterday.

Currently the STEC Kidney Foundation has provided financial assistance to 23 patients.

As the number of patients requiring financial assistance has decreased significantly due to the subsidies from Ministry of Health and due to the number of patients is increasing, the foundation will start organising awareness event or campaigns soon to create awareness of the dangers of kidney disease and to encourage people to live a healthy life.
