SIBU: Acting on a public tipoff, an enforcement team from Sibu Regional Office of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) raided a sawmill located at Tanjung Manis on Sunday.

According to a press statement issued yesterday by SFC, the operation resulted in the detention of 1,565 pieces of short logs portions and machineries and equipments believed to have been used to process the said logs. Another 91 pieces of merchantable logs found within the premises were also detained.

“We believe that the timber products had been illegally sourced as the person-in-charge of the sawmill was unable to present any documentation to support lawful possession of the said timber,” the statement added.

A police report was lodged at Tanjung Manis Police Station and the detained timber and machineries will be handed over to Forest Department for further investigation.
