MIRI : A schoolgirl died while a teenage boy was seriously injured when the motorcycle they were on was involved in an accident with two vehicles at Kuala Baram Bypass here yesterday mo0rning.
In the 11.30am accident, Heather Helda Tawi,11, a pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan Merbau died on the spot because of serious head and body injuries.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Chief, Superintendent Alexson Naga Chanu said the accident involved a Yamaha motorcycle carrying the victim and the teenage boy, a FJ Cruiser and a Perodua Myvi.
“Results of the initial investigations show that the motorcycle rammed the back of the FJ Cruiser before it landed on the left side of the road and was hit by the Perodua Myvi.
“As a result, the motorcycle rider and pillion rider were dragged by the vehicle for a few metres, causing the pillion rider to die on the spot,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.
He said the motorcyclist, who was seriously injured, was rushed to Miri Hospital for further treatment.
The remains of the schoolgirl were also taken to the hospital, added Alexson.
Both motorists were not injured, he said. Meanwhile, police are investigating the case.
