KUCHING: Sarawak Development Institute (SDI) will be organising a talk on ‘Sketchbook for working with community: Will it Work?’ on July 5 (Thursday).

The venue will be at the conference room of Kompleks AZAM, Jalan Crookshank, from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.

The talk will be presented by Dr. Tariq, Associate Professor at CECOS University of IT & Emerging Sciences in Peshawar, Pakistan and a Research Fellow of the Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI), UNIMAS.

Dr. Tariq, who is passionate about co-design technology with indigenous people, will present their most recent approach to overcome the cross-cultural communication gaps using sketches, as articulated by the local community members.

He also will discuss potential roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, partner community, gatekeepers and guest researchers aiming to sustain a coherent research and development collaboration.

Dr. Tariq believes that participation of the local community is necessary for any project, without which the proverbial white elephant project will result.

Existing research and practice provide much evidence on the need and importance of this participation.

The talk is open to interested individuals. Registration is free of charge and on first come first serve basis as seats are limited. Please contact SDI (Evelette Robin or Khairul Anam) at 082-415484/416484 to register.
