KUCHING: More than 300 sports coaches will gather at the ‘Sports and Recreational and Sports Administration Symposium (Sarawak and Sabah) and Sports Science Seminar 2017’ from October 10 to 12 at Riverside Majestic Hotel, Kuching.

The national symposium and seminar is jointly organised by Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports with the cooperation of Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), State Sports Council (MSN Sarawak), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak, Teacher’s Education Institute (IPG) of Tun Abdul Razak and National Sports Institute of Malaysia East.

Themed ‘The Key to Podium Excellence and Athletics Performance Through the Application of Sports Science’, the event will be a relevant platform to develop the knowledge of sports coordinators, team managers, coaches, sports practitioners, physical education teachers, lecturers of Higher Education Institute (IPTA) and lecturers of IPG.

According to Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Snowdan Lawan, this effort was in line with improving sports advancement and preserving quality sports management, sports science and Physical Education (PJ) systems.

“In the same way, participants can share resources and expertise amongst the participants in particular towards realising the vision and mission of the 6th KRA to make Sarawak a leading force and a leader in future sports,” he said.

Snowdan said this in a press conference in conjunction with the Sports and Recreational and Sports Administration Symposium (Sarawak and Sabah) and Sports Science Seminar 2017 at State Stadium in Petra Jaya here, yesterday.

He hoped that this programme will expand the cooperation zone of coaches, sports practitioners and educators in targeting the development of athletes who can compete globally and face the world of challenging coaching.

“Among our keynote speakers are Chairman of National Sports Institute of East Malaysia Dr. KH Tan, SSC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ong Kong Swee, Director of the Podium Division of National Sports Institute Timothy O’brien Newenham, National Coach Director of National Sports Institute Allan Black, President of Malaysian Sports Medicine Association (MASM) Dr. Chan Kin Yuen, Technical Director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Morten Frost Hansen and Commonwealth Sports Federation Medical Advisor and Chairman of Asian Olympic Council (OCA) Medical and Anti-Doping Committee Tan Sri Dr. M. Jegathesan,” he pointed out.

It is hoped that the participation of local and foreign players through the sharing of knowledge and latest skills in the field of sports, education and innovation will enable the transformation of sports and physical education in Malaysia to produce effective trainers, sports and educators and develop athletes who can compete globally.

“This programme will benefit Sarawak as a destination for international sports activities.

“Such activities should be encouraged as being a platform for those who are partners in Sarawak’s development as a highly respected sport powerhouse’,” he said.
