KUCHING: Sarawak wants its share of tourism tax collected by Putrajaya since September 2017.
Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Hamzah said the state had yet to receive payment since last year.
“We are trying to push for it. Maybe because we are an opposition state, we get treated this way.
“As far as I know, Sabah has received theirs but not Sarawak,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the 8th Sarawak Tourism Hornbill Awards at the Old Court House here on Thursday night.
He said the state only wanted its share.
“The amount might just be only RM100,000 or RM200,000 but if it’s still something that should be paid to Sarawak, it must be done,” he said.
Karim said the state should have received RM2.3 million from September 2017 to September last year.
“It may be a small amount for the tourism industry, but it is something that had to be paid. If they can pay other states, why can’t they pay us?” he said.
