MIRI: The police here arrested seven men for suspected involvement in cock-fighting activities last Saturday afternoon.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 64, were rounded up when a team from Miri CID raided a cock-fighting den in Kampung Pelapi in Bekenu at around 3.30pm.

Of the seven detained, one of them is an Indonesian.

Miri District Police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat confirmed the arrests and said the suspects were taken to Miri Central Police Station for further investigation.

“Besides the arrests, police also seized two live roosters and two dead ones, a blackboard believed to be used to list out the bets and a loudspeaker,” he said in a statement here.

Khoo said the case was being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Cruelty against Animal (Cockfighting) Act, 1962 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, 1959/63.
