KUCHING: The launch of ‘Little Iban Scribbles: Stories From Malaysia’s First Iban Commando Officer’ marks the seventh book by Lieutenant Colonel Linus Lunsong Janti.

The book, which is a compilation of 53 short stories, contains snippets of Linus’ time spent serving the country.

It also contains several stories on his life before he joined the army by talking about life in his longhouse in Sungai Aup, Sibu as well as his schooling days.

“Unfortunately, a lot of those whom I’ve known have already passed on and a lot of their stories have not been told.

“This is a fraction of what happened to us and I am glad that I am still alive to tell these stories and pass them down,” said Linus during the launch at Wine & Liquor, Jalan Tun Jugah here on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, who was also present during the launch, expressed his appreciation at being invited for the event.

“He (Linus) is one of the few Ibans who spent their lives defending the country and achieved one of the most high-ranking positions in the military.

“It is good that he had compiled his experiences into books as we may have never known what he has done.

“So, please continue writing so that the people know what you’ve done and it won’t get lost in history.

“It’s also important to make known what he has done to enable us to live in peace today,” said the Deputy Chief Minister who is also the Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament (MP) for Julau, Datuk Joseph Salang hoped that Linus would continue to write more books in the future.

“You can see how he remembers things that have happened decades ago and that is one of the things we can learn from him.

“I am happy to be given the opportunity to read your book and I hope you will share more with us in your next book,” said Joseph.
