KAPIT: State assemblyman for Bukit Goram, Jefferson Jamit Unyat has responded to the plight of the residents of Taman Tay Thian Chiong housing estate here, who complained of severe and dangerous erosion at the storm drain outlet at their housing area.

Jamit, accompanied by several heads of departments , community leaders and the staffs from PBB Service Centre Kapit paid a site visit to the area to have a first hand look at the situation..

The houses affected by the severe soil erosion are located on a slope close to the river bank. They appealed to Jamit for the construction of a retention wall at the affected area to stop further soil erosion at the area.

One of the house owners, Christina Tiong Siaw Ling, said the soil erosion happened earlier this year and began at the outlet of the storm drain. She appealed to Jamit for the consruction  of a retaining wall and a  storm drain to ensure the smooth flow of waste water into Sungai Ulu Selirik .

Sungai Ulu Selirik is located at the backlane of the Taman Tay Thian Chiong here. It was observed that one stretch of the river bank was badly affected by soil erosion that endangers occupants of at least three houses built on the slope causing the owners sleepless night each time there is heavy rain for fear that further soil erosion might affect the foundation of their houses.

They also appealed to the government to check and take remedial measures to prevent further soil erosion.
