Sexagenarian among four held for drug abuse

MIRI: A 60-year-old man is among four men arrested during a raid on a house at Jalan Acacia here yesterday morning.

They were suspected of being involved in drug abuse.

The suspects, aged between 44 and 60, detained by a police team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) at around 10.30am.

It was understood that during the raid, all four men were found under the influence of drugs in one of the rooms located on the first floor of the house.

District Deputy Police chief, Superintendent Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed the arrests and said all suspects were tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

“Besides the arrests, the police also seized a packet of crystalline substance, believed to be syabu, with an estimated weight of 0.18 grammes,” he said.

Stanley also said early investigation revealed one of the suspects had two previous criminal records involving drugs.

“All suspects have been detained under Section 12 (2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952 and remanded to facilitate investigation,” he said.
