KUCHING: The crocodile-culling programme of Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) continues, with three large crocs culled in the last few days. According to a SFC statement issued yesterday, the first cull was achieved at the waters of Sg Rimbas, Pusa.

“A special SWAT team made up of personnel from Kuching and Sibu had been dispatched to the location to hunt down the croc that had recently attacked and killed Bentayan Bin Ilah, 31, from Kampung Tambak.

The team installed 13 baited hooks along a 5- km stretch of Sg Rimbas and managed to take down a 4.8-metre croc yesterday evening. A postmortem was carried out this morning in the presence of police officers and the victim’s family.

Some body parts were found inside the crocodile’s abdomen and had been sent to the Police for forensic DNA analysis,” said the statement.

In two other cases, SWAT teams dispatched to Sg. Kawi, Bintagor and an oil palm estate at Suai, Miri also managed to cull two crocs, measuring 3.87 and 3.9-metre, respectively. Both locations had been reported to have humancrocodile conflict issues.
