KUCHING: Construction specialist Hock Seng Lee Bhd (HSL) will be organising a blood donation drive this Saturday, November 11, at Boulevard Shopping Mall. The firm is responding to a call from the Sarawak General Hospital’s blood bank, which is currently low on Type A and Type AB blood. This is the first time HSL will be organising such an event.
“We have always wanted to host or sponsor a blood donor campaign. A member on our board of directors, Dr Chou Chii Ming, is the Malaysian Red Crescent, Kuching District, deputy chairman,” said Corporate Affairs Manager Shirley Loo.
“Last month, after we wrapped up on a Green Week event, we wondered, what would be next? A blood donation campaign is a very direct way to contribute to society. Also helping us with this event is Boulevard Shopping Mall, which is offering a space free of charge, and the Malaysian Red Crescent.”
“All donors will be receiving goodie bags apart from food and drinks,” Loo added.
HSL’s Green Week is a twice yearly week-long recycling campaign. Office materials are mostly sent for recycling while staff contributions like clothes are donated to charities. The firm’s other corporate social responsibility programmes have included Lunar New Year donations to non-governmental bodies including Sarawak Blood Donor Society, Cheshire Home, Salvation Army, Mental Health Association, Hospice Society and the Society for Critically Sick Children.
“We also sponsor our staff for events like The Spring’s Live Active Run, CMS Tribal Run, and recently, the World Heart Day’s 2km Heart Walk,” Loo said.
