MIRI: A 27-year-old man has been arrested for stealing 10 chocolate bars worth RM80.48 from a hypermarket at Jalan Post here on Monday evening.
It was believed that the suspect grabbed 10 chocolate bars and shoved them into a sling bag he was carrying.
The man then just walked out of the hypermarket without paying for the items.
Fortunately, an alert staff who noticed the man’s behaviour immediately informed the store security guard.
The security guard managed to stop the suspect and conducted a body search where chocolate bars were found inside his sling bag.
When the suspect was ordered to produce a payment receipt for the items, he failed to do so.
The police were then immediately called to pick the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum 10 years’ jail and fine upon conviction.
