MIRI: Two siblings were seriously injured when a cooking gas cylinder (LPG) exploded in their house at Desa Senadin here on Tuesday evening. The two victims have been identified as Vincent Wong Hong Seng,18, and his sister Serene Wong Hong Sieng,15, were reported to have suffered 50 per cent burns on their bodies.

Miri Zone 6 fire chief, Law Poh Kiong disclose “The two victims were taken to Miri Hospital by the police who arrived earlier to the scene,” said Law.

Prior to the incident, the victims together with their father have just arrived at their house. However, the father was unharmed as he was walking behind his children when they entered the house. Preliminary investigations revealed that the cooking gas cylinder was leaking prior to the incident.

“We were told that upon arrival at the house, the victims had immediately turned on the lights which triggered the incident,” Law said, adding that the father had smelled gas before entering the house that evening. The entire house immediately erupted into flames after the incident happened. Fortunately, with their neighbours’ help they managed to put out the fire.
