SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council’s (SRDC) deputy chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew said when it comes to Sibu Jaya, somehow it always feels more fun and vibrant to him.

“I cannot quite put my finger on it. But when I get invited to events in Sibu Jaya, I always get this feeling that it is more relaxed and cheerful,” he said at a street dinner hosted by Distrepark Sdn Bhd, the developer of Sibu Jaya last weekend.

While acknowledging that the well-planned township and sprawling open spaces could have something to do with the positive vibes, he said Sibu Jaya’s fun soul was the people. “Whenever I walk around even when there are no events going on, you have this palpable sense that the people here are more sociable and cheerful,” he said.

Residents of Sibu Jaya were more prone to singing and dancing and having a good time, instead of being shy and reserved. From the youths to the adults and even the elderly, be it at a concert or at the coffee shop, they are not shy when it came to music and laughter.

“This is a very healthy development and I hope that the residents here would never lose that vigour and spirit,” he said.

Lau, who was one of the guests-of-honour at the Hawaiian-styled luau dinner, also credited the developer for spearheading fun events at the township.

“They came up with the SibuJaya Fiesta in 2017 and it was a huge success. And in 2018 they upped the ante and created the SibuJaya Fun 5 Carnival which featured the five Asian elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth in a most creative and fun manner,” he said.

The developer was also lauded for their effort in engaging youths in SibuJaya.

“I know they are currently mentoring about 30 youths and getting the latter involved in events around Sibu Jaya,” he added.

Pointing out that such effort was truly noteworthy of a developer, Lau pledged to support the cause through various ways and means.

“This is the first time I come across a developer who is spending time and making effort in mentoring youths in this township and I fully support such efforts,” he said.
