KUCHING: Six cars under the Local Service 24/7 programme were unveiled by Minister for Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian after the opening ceremony of Neon Street Night Market at Kuching City Mall on Monday.

“This Local Service 24/7 was launched last year but only with the motorbikes, and today we unveil the cars to the public.

“This is an additional service to the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) as well as Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) which will assist the public in catering to small cases such as broken street light, small flash flood or other trivial matters that need to be fixed immediately,” said Sim.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has two of the cars while Miri, Sri Aman, Sibu and Samarahan has one car each.

“This emergency service will provide tools as well as ground staff to assist the public. The MPP hotline is 013-8025566,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sim revealed that the ‘Pilot Application’ would be initiated by the end of April to enhance the services of the local authorities.

“Through this new application, the general public can send reports regarding public facilities or issues related with community directly and instantly to the relevant authorities.

“Without unveiling their phone number, they just need to pinpoint the location of the cases and it will directly link to the relevent authorities following the location whereby they will follow up with the cases,” he explained.

Sim pointed out that the pilot application would be part of the improvement to the local services which involved the usage of digital technology as well as actual services to the community.

“The name of the application has yet to be decided and I would like to hear suggestions from the public,” he added.
