MATU: A single storey wooden house at Kampung Tebuaw Tian, here, was partly destroyed by fire on Tuesday.

The fast action of the Voluntary Fire Brigade of Matu (PBS Matu) and the villagers was said to save the premises with three rooms from being completely damaged.

According to the Operations Commander and Mukah Division Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) officer-in charge Mohd Azhar Awi, they deployed seven firemen to the site after receiving an emergencey call at about 12.30pm.

“Our men with two vehicles, 1 LFRT, 1EMRS headed by Fire Station Operation Officer Abdul Rasit Morni, were deployed to the site after we received the call. The fire was believed to have started in one of the rooms.   PBS Matu and the villagers managed to completely put out the fire,”  he said.

He added members of the PBS and villagers also managed to bring out furniture from the house which was 30 percent destroyed.

“The fire fighting operation done by PBS Matu was said to be using water from the river nearby,” he disclosed.

Azhar pointed out that firemen from Mukah who arrived at the scene later were only involved in the inspection works and to get relevant information at the fire site.
