KUCHING: Both sections of the Pan Borneo Highway (PBH) at KM53 are now open to road users as at around 6pm yesterday, according to a Facebook posting from Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak.

Earlier it was reported that a corrugated metal pipe which collapsed beneath a stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway before Lachau brought traffic between Kuching and Sri Aman to a standstill yesterday morning.

Both sections of the highway at KM53 were closed after the 4.20am cave-in that led to a lorry being trapped after it ran into the sinkhole.

According to a Facebook posting from the Public Works Department (JKR), arrangements have been made to pull the lorry out of the two-metre wide sinkhole.

“Temporary diversion is currently being prepared and is expected to be open at 10am today,” it added yesterday.

It is understood that contractors were doing their best to carry out repair works to make it possible in opening both road sections to road users late in the afternoon as stated above.
