MIRI: A family of six were made homeless after fire destroyed their rented wooden house in Kampung Tanjung Berlipat, Niah here late Thursday evening.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong said that they received a call on the incident around 6.06pm.

“One fire engine with six firemen was immediately dispatched to the location,” Law said, adding that six members of the Batu Niah Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) were the first to arrive at the location.

The fire was completely put out at 7.15pm.

The family of six comprising a couple and their four teenage children had rented the house for the past three years.

No casualty was reported during the fire as the family members managed to flee to safety when the fire broke out.

Law added that his department was still assessing the total loss incurred in the tragedy.

The actual cause of the fire is not immediately known as investigation is underway.
