Six men arrested for cock-fighting

MIRI: Police arrested six men including three foreigners for suspected involvement in cock-fighting activities on Saturday.

Miri District Police chief, ACP Lim Ming Saeh said the raid on the cock-fighting pit in Kampung Bukit Bom, Niah was carried out by the district’s CID team at 4.30pm.

He said the six arrested were aged between 30s and 60s.

“During the raid, the police detained six men. Three of them are Indonesians and they were found without any valid travel documents,” he said here.

Lim said the police also seized six live roosters, gambling paraphernalia and a sum of cash.

He said the suspects were taken to Miri Central Police Station for further action and the case was being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Prevention to Cruelty of Animals Ordinance, 1962 and Section 7(2) of the Open Gaming House Act, 1953.

“The three Indonesian men are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, 1958/63,” added Lim.
