KUCHING: An Indonesian was being sentenced to six month’s jail by the Magistrates’ Court here yesterday for falsifying travel documents.

He was charged under Section 129(1)(b) of the Passport Act 1966.

On March 15 this year, the accused was detained by Immigration authorities at Kuching International Airport after it was found that the particulars in the passport he was carrying did not relate to him.

Further examination revealed that he had tampered with the passport by substituting the original photo in the passport with that of his own.

The charge was brought forward by a prosecuting officer from the Sarawak Immigration Dept (Enforcement Unit) and read to the accused before magistrate Zubaidah Binti Sharkawi.

After sentencing, he was brought to Puncak Borneo Prison yesterday to serve his term.

The Immigration Department reminded foreigners to carry authentic passports when they enter Malaysia. Strict action will be taken against any agency or individual for falsifying passports.
