MIRI: Effective from 1st September 2018 (Saturday), 6 per cent tax will be applicable to parking coupon, says Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor, Adam Yii.

Yii announced this at a press conference held at MCC’s meeting room yesterday.

“Effective 1st September, parking services are subject to 6 per cent service tax; the parking fee will be at normal price plus 6 per cent service tax in accordance with Service Tax Act 2018,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said, all parking coupons purchased before 1st September are still valid.

“All parking coupons will be on sale with 6 per cent tax and to be incurred by the motorists. For instance, a book containing 10 parking coupons put on sale from 1st September 2018 will cost RM4 plus RM0.25 (6 per cent service tax) and thus is costing RM4.25,” he explained.

Yii was later being asked to response on a statement made by Pujut assemblyman, Dr Ting Tiong Choon, who suggested that MCC should absorb the 6 per cent service tax.
