KUCHING: The Sarawak police will not compromise with any officer or policeman involved in misconduct which may affect the image of the team, said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Amer Awal.
“On, 8 August 2017 starting at 10.00 pm until 9 August 2017 at 3.00 am, a total of six officers and policemen were arrested by D9 IPK Sarawak team at their homes and workplaces in Kuching, Padawan and Lundu.
“The arrest is due to two police reports from the public that were received at Batu Kawa and Sematan about a group of men who had been extorting some money from them,” he said during a press conference at Media Room at IPK Sarawak Jalan Badruddin here, yesterday
He said that the first police report was received on 3 August 2017 while the second report was on 8 August 2017.
“One of those arrested was an Inspector, aged 53, who served at Licensing branch of Management Department in IPK Sarawak while the other five were personnel of lower ranks, aged between 25 and 32, attached to different branches of the IPD Kuching,” he stated.
Amer said that the six suspects were produced in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning to be remanded for three days from
yesterday (9 August) for further investigation.
“Both police reports are being investigated under section 384 of the Penal Code and we will investigate the case to know when the extortion started to happen.
“Any officer or policeman proved to be involved in misconduct may be brought to Court or disciplinary action taken,” he added.
Meanwhile, earlier State CID chief SAC Dato Dev Kumar disclosed that the police party from D9 IPK that arrested the six was led by DSP Sarifudin Mustaffa.
