SIBU: The Chief Minister’s Special Award 2018 was awarded to SMK Sacred Heart for being the best secondary school in the state in terms of academics and co-curriculum achievements.
Sibu District Education officer Radin Foji Radin Abdul Rahim who officiated the ceremony, congratulated and commended the hard work of the teachers, students and parents towards the success that the school had achieved.
According to him, the award will further motivate the teachers, students, alumni association and parents to achieve even greater things not only at the state but national level as well.
“It was not easy to win the award but the school did it,” he said during the presentation of the award at SMK Sacred Heart yesterday.
SMK Sacred Heart principal David Teo, who also spoke at the function, said the school was judged on their academic and co-curriculum performance as well as student affairs during the past three years.
“We are proud to say that we have once again made that extra mile academically by being the only school in Sabah and Sarawak to make it into the country’s top schools for two consecutively years in 2016 and 2017,” he said.
He elaborated that in last year’s STPM examination, the school’s cumulative grade point average was 3.35 with 24 candidates securing 4As and 100 percent of the Form 6 students were also accepted into local universities.
“For SPM, out of 202 candidates, the school recorded 98.5 percent passes with a school average grade of 2.98.
“We were among the top three schools in Sibu and top eight in Sarawak in terms of SPM results,” he added.
As for co-curriculum activities, 32 students had won various competitions at state and national levels.
