SARATOK: SMK Saratok were crowned champion after defeating SMK Kalaka 1-0 in the final of the Betong Division Under 18 football tournament held at the Padang SMK Padang Augustine Betong, recently.

SMK Saratok team won back the title which was grabbed by SMK Saribas in last year’s edition. SMK Saratok won the championship for four consecutive years (2010-2013). SMK Saratok team will now represent Betong Division at the state level tournament in Bintulu Division in July. The head coach of SMK Saratok, Ray Clement Robin attributed the success of his team to recapture the title this year to hard work of all the players.

“I can see that our players have improved in terms of individual skills and teamwork,” he said. “I am very pleased with the performance of my players who are looking to mature and we are ready to compete in the state level championship,” said assistant assistant coach Mohd Hadi Haimi. Meanwhile, SMK Kabong and SMK Beladin were third and fourth places respectively after losing in the semi-finals.

The final player’s award went to Desmond Balai from SMK Saratok and Antoinette Nyuin also from SMK Saratok also won the top scorer of the tournament award. Nine teams from secondary schools around Betong took part in the tournament, organised by SMK Saint Augustine Betong in collaboration with Betong District Education Office (PPD).
