KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that a special committee will be set up to coordinate assistance programmes for companies or individuals who wish to venture into business.

Tengah, who is also the Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, revealed that the committee would be on a ‘ministry level’.

“I see that there are many agencies (federal and state) that can provide assistance. So this committee will be set up to involve all these agencies so that we can coordinate programmes.

“It will also enable us to determine the target groups,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak SME Conference at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, yesterday.

When asked if he has any advice for those who wish to venture into entrepreneurship, Tengah said what they would need would be proper guidance.

“I can see that they have high level of determination; all they need now is proper guidance and counselling.

“I have confidence that they can succeed,” he added.

The conference was in conjunction with the state-level SME Week 2017 which is expected to draw in 5,000 SME entrepreneurs from all over the state.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh, Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and SME Development Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Majais and Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Haji Julaihi Narawi.
