SRI AMAN: Visitors, including tourists, coming to Bandar Sri Aman should make it compulsory to drop by at the old Sarawak Transport Company (STC) bus station.

This is because the former STC bus station is a very busy site and full of people attracted by the sales of jungle products, agricultural produce, local handicrafts and it is some sort of a wet market selling local river fish, prawns, meats, vegetables and other food items and drinks.

Based on a random survey by New Sarawak Tribune/Utusan Sarawak yesterday the site was thronged a big number of people including women and children, comprising both locals and foreigners.

A source said the site would start to be conjested with traders and patrons from as early as 7.30am and this would continue until around 12.15pm daily.

It is a gold mine for traders who are mainly Bumiputera. By taking such golden opportunity, many of the traders are laughing all the way to the bank.

A vegetable vendor from Kemintin Klauh near here said the trading activities at the old bus station site has helped him to make an extra income of between RM50 and RM150 daily.

“This old bus station is considered a very strategic spot for trading purposes as it is the main drop point for rural visitors to this Sri aman town every day.

“So those who intend to look for jungle products or river fish don’t forget to drop by here from early morning daily,” he pointed out.

The site has become a centre of trading activities as the nearby Pasar Tamu Sri Aman which is also a trading site,  is always full and and congested, said another vendor.

“I heard that the government is building a new Pasar Tamu and I hope the new site will offer more lots for vendors when it is operational in the future,” he said.
