SRU coaches attend course at Sir Gordon Tietjens Academy

KUCHING: Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) recently sent three coaches to attend a three-day rugby coaching course for seven a-side at the Sir Gordon Tietjens Academy in Sandakan, Sabah from March 14 to 16. The three SRU coaches are Nacani Seniu (elite), Sylvia Lian (elite) and Er Embran L Mohd Ali (development).

SRU president, Richard Song Swee Jin likes to express his thanks to Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is the Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports and Dr Ong Kong Swee, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sarawak Sports Corporation for their continuous support to develop rugby in Sarawak.

The course was held in conjunction with the official opening of the Rugby Academy by Sir Gordon Tietjens, who is the former coach of New Zealand All Blacks 7s. He was accompanied by Edwin Crocker, Rocky Khan and Crystal Kaua.

The academy is run by Eagles Rugby Club, Sandakan. Edwin Crocker was the captain of NZ All Blacks 7s (2005-2008) and the current head coach of Auckland 7s. Rocky Khan was a member of NZ All Blacks 7s (2013-2017) and is currently the coach for NZ National Secondary School while Crystal Kaua is the former NZ Black Fern player, who is now actively involved in rugby coaching.
