St Theresa Church to celebrate Feast of Patron Saint on 30 Sept

SERIAN: The St Theresa’s Parish Council here will celebrate the feast of St. Theresa, the Patron Saint in the evening of 30 September (Saturday) with a procession round Serian Bazaar, entertainment items, lucky draws, sales of food, drinks and handicrafts at SRK St. Theresa’s car park near the church here.

If the weather does not permit, the town procession will be replaced by a ‘Rosary recitation’ in the church.

The Feast Day Holy Mass will be celebrated at 8.30 am the following day (Sunday 1 October), the actual Feast Day in the church.

The celebration, the only annual fund-raising project of the Council will be launched by His Grace Archbishop Simon Poh on 30 September, 2017.

The objectives of the celebration include to thank God and Patron Saint, St Theresa for their blessings to unite the parishioners  under one roof with peace and harmony, to foster better relationship among fellow parishioners and friends around, to raise funds for the maintenance and development of the main church and the rural churches in the Parish and for the physical and spiritual activities and projects of the Parish Council.

Chairman of the Parish Council, Dennis Sung who is also Advisor of the Committee said that the annual major fund-raising event is to help the Parish in its spiritual, pastoral, welfare and physical activities and projects.

The activities include upkeep of the main church and its mission land, to assist in upkeep of rural churches, to assist lay ministries and to help in time of disasters.

He also disclosed that the recently completed projects are the Bell Tower, PA system and perimeter survey of the main church.

He added that the proposed projects are to rectify the sinking apron of the main church, the installation of HVLS fan in the church and to improve the water supply system with others in the pipeline.

Chairman of the Special Function Committee of the Parish Council, Dennis Edwin said that the donation envelopes and lucky draw tickets are now available at the Parish Office in the church. They will also be available during the celebration days.

He said, “We are very thankful to Serian MP who is also Minister of Human Resources, Dato Sri Dr Richard Riot Jaem for donating the lucky draw 1st prize of a Honda EX5 motorcycle, Bukit Semuja Assemblyman, John Ilus for donating the 2nd prize  of a refrigerator, Kedup Assemblyman, Martin Ben for donating the 3rd prize of a LED television set and many others who donated prizes for the lucky draws to make it a more cheerful celebration.”

He said that the Committee has also decided that the lucky draw winners can claim their prizes until 31 October, 2017 with their winning tickets from the Parish Council Office during normal working hours.
