State government receives alms from PNB

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday received obligatory business alms ‘zakat perniagaan’ amounting to RM 15, 631 200 from the Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Group at Astana Negeri, Petra Jaya, here. The cheque for the amount was presented by PNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.

Payment of the such ‘zakat’ amount by PNB was based on ‘haul’ and ‘nisab’ that have been in place. Business ‘Zakat’ by PNB did not include the amount paid to individual share of account holders of PNB who have invested in the fund operated under Amanah Saham Nasional Berhad (ASNB).

Also present were PNB Board of Directors members Soedirman Aini, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Dato Idris Kechot, Head of Syariah Management Dr Ahmad Basri Ibrahim and President of Sarawak Islamic Council Datu Misnu Taha.
