KUCHING: The state government will be meeting the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to discuss the findings from the research conducted on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)  original documents in London.

However, Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the meeting will only be conducted after discussions with all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties in Sarawak.

“We must discuss it amongst us first, to decide the direction of the actions that BN Sarawak will undertake in the future.

“Each component party should be informed of the findings of the research. After all have been decided, only then will we bring it to the Prime Minister,”

Johari said this at a press conference after launching the Entrepreneur Excellence Seminar and Forum organised by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Wednesday.

The team of researchers that went to London comprised lawyers led by Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal relations and Project Monitoring, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali. They were there from 16 to 23 July, 2017.

He then disclosed that discussions with component parties are also needed as there are complicated matters that should be looked into to maintain good relationship between the state and the federal government.

“We must thank the Prime Minister for being open-minded and have agreed to negotiate and take matters into consideration for the people of Sarawak.

“He has also showed his interest in returning some rights to Sarawak as it should have been.

“From the last visit to London, we have also discovered that there are still many facts within the MA63 that we should look into. Hence, we have established a correlative relationship with the archives in London.

“Therefore, a trip to London is no longer necessary,” said Johari.

He also rebuked on remarks made by opposition parties stating that the research can just be conducted online.

“If we did that, we would not have discovered some documents that contained major information regarding the agreement itself,” said Johari. Meanwhile, the appointment of the Board of Directors of the state’s own oil and gas company PETROS has not been revealed by Johari but assured that all of them are Sarawakians who are experienced in the industry.
