State-level Nuzul Al-Quran expects 2,000 guests

MIRI: Nuzul Al-Quran State-level which is scheduled to be held at Masjid At-Taqwa Miri here is expecting some 2,000 guests.

The ceremony expects to commence at 5.30pm on 1 June (Friday).

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Taib as well as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Patinggi Dato’ Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang will attend the event.

This year’s theme will be ‘Ukhuwah Islamiah Asas Penyatuan Ummah’ (Islamic Solidarity Foundation of Unity of the Ummah).

Yesterday the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president, Datu Misnu Taha, chaired a meeting with various government agencies on their preparation for the upcoming event.

The meeting was held at Sarawak Islamic Complex in Miri.

Also attending at the meeting was Resident Miri, Sherrina Husaini.

Of the 2,000 expected guests, 200 comprise State ministers and assistant ministers together with their spouses, the State Secretary and his wife, permanent secretaries to ministeries, heads of government departments and agencies, as well as staff members of the MIS, Sarawak Fatwa Board, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak and Sarawak Wakaf Board.

Leading up to the event, there will be also a forum on the theme at Dewan Masjid Darul Istiqamah Kampung Luak Miri (1 June) scheduled to commence at 8am with Dr Arip Adol of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) as the invited speaker.

Expected to grace the forum will be Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Assistant Minister of Women, family and Childhood Developemtn, Rosey Yunus.
