KUCHING: Entries are now open for the inaugural Sarawak Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship 2018 which will be held at Damai Golf & Country Club (DGCC) on March 20 to 22. This was announced by DGCC general manager, Roslan Mohd Salleh who said the three-day event is the first of its kind organised at the club and is expected to attract participants from throughout the state.

According to him, the event is divided into Boys and Girls categories where the participants are competing in the various divisions as follow: Boys Special (Age 18–21 with handicap 16.8 or lower), Boys A (Age 15–17 with handicap 16.8 or lower) Boys B (Age 13–14 with handicap 22.3 or lower), Boys C (Age 11–12 and open to all handicaps) and Boys D (Age 10 and below with all handicaps).

For the Girls category, the participants will be divided into the following divisions: Girls Special (Age 18–21 with handicap 17.7 or lower), Girls A (Age 15–17 with handicap 17.7 or lower) Girls B (Age 13–14 with handicap 29.2 or lower), Girls C (Age 11–12 and open to all handicaps) and Boys D (Age 10 and below with all handicaps).

The event is sanctioned by Sarawak Golf Association (SGA) with the closing date on March 13. Those interested can submit their entries at the clubhouse which can be contacted at 082-846088. Meanwhile, a friendly golf tournament between Sarawak Economic De v e l o pme nt ( S EDC) a n d Pahang Economic Development Corporation (PKNP) was held recently at DGCC as part of the visitors’ itinerary to the state.

SEDC team was led by its chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husin while PKNP was led by the Deputy Chief Executive, Dato’ Sri Ahmad Sabri Husin who during their stay here, the visiting group went to places of interest including Sarawak Cultural Village and Damai Central. Apart from promoting cordial relations between SEDC and PKNP, the event is also aimed to create better understanding among the two state government agencies which are expected to be working closely together in the near future for mutual benefits.

In the friendly tournament, Badli Safar finished first placing after he edged Roslan Mohd Salleh with 37 Stableford point on countback (OCB) while SEDC deputy general manager, Edwin Abit finished third and Zekaria Hussaini trailed in fourth placing.
