STB holds staff appreciation dinner

KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) held an appreciation dinner for their staffs at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Monday night.

The dinner was attended by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“This dinner is to acknowledge the effort and hardwork put in by the STB staffs towards the tourism industry.

“I wish to express my sincere thanks to the management and staffs for their achievement in making STB what it is today,” said Karim.

He added that STB need to be proactive in their plans to attract more tourists to Sarawak.

“Tourism products come in various forms. They are not only about culture, nature, landscape and the like. They also include sports, business and so on.

“We hope to maintain our competitiveness in the future. We have achieved a very good number of tourists coming to Sarawak last year,” he said.

The event was also meant as a farewell dinner to former Permanent Secretary for the Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sports, Ik Pahon who has been transferred to the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development.

At the event, there was also presentation of Excellent Service Awards 2016 and Long Service Awards to various staffs.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, the ministry’s new Permanent Secretary, Hii Chang Kee, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, STB Chairman of the Board of Directors, Datuk Abd Wahab Aziz and STB Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mary Wan Mering.
