KUCHING: In 14 months, Brooke Dockyard and Shell have achieved a milestone in completing the E6 Field Development Project with 1.2 million injury-free working hours clocked in at Brooke Dockyard along the way.

The contract was awarded on 5 September 2016 to Brooke Dockyard for the fabrication of 1450 tonnes topside and 1500 tonnes jacket for the E6 Field Development Project.

The Loadout ceremony of E6DP – A Substructure and Topside was graced by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg held at the Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation, Jalan Bako here yesterday.

The Chairman of Shell Malaysia, Datuk Iain Lo, disclosed that the partnership between Brooke Dockyard and Shell have lasted for 30 years. “I’m happy to see it grow from strength to strength. Our partner has built an outstanding facility. “Sarawakians were involved in making this is a success whereby the project was delivered more efficiently and exceeded all expectations in terms of budget, time, safety and quality,” said Lo.

He added that for the first time in Malaysia, Brooke Dockyard has been entrusted to use its own Health, Safety and Environment Management system in the fabrication of the E6 platform.

“This is a key step to simplify our relationships with our contractors and reducing cost, and E6 is one of the first projects within Shell globally to adopt this approach,” revealed Lo. Meanwhile, the Chairman of Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation, Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg said that the successful completion was a clear testimony to Brooke Dockyard’s capabilities especially to undertake marginal field projects.

“Throughout the 30-year relationship with Sarawak Shell, we have so far undertaken and completed 20 projects comprising four offshore living quarters, five substructures, seven topsides, one subsea template, two rejuvenation pre-fabrication works and helideck within Sarawak waters,” he added.

Also present during the ceremony were State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, State Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker, Dato Gerawat Gala and Assistant Minister of Transportation, Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.
