KUCHING: A female hiker was stranded on Mount Singgai, Jalan Bau on Tuesday night. The 16-year-old sustained a broken leg and had to be stretchered down the mountain.

The authority received a distress call at 8.56pm and sent a team of rescuers who arrived at the foot of the mountain within five minutes. The rescuers then got more information from a group of 12 hikers, who are friends of the victim, following which they proceeded to the reported location.

The group are residents in the area, according to the authority. As soon as the rescuers had attended to the victim, they headed for the foot of the mountain.

An Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team attended to the injured teenage girl the moment she were brought to safety and later sent her to Bau Hospital for further treatment. The rescue operation concluded at 9.15pm, added the authority.
