Students attracted to learn Sarawak’s history

Kuching: In conjunction with the International Archives Day 2017 celebration, Sarawak State Library has organised ‘I Love History!’ programme recently held at the library’s Special Collection Room.

The programme was successfully held with the participation of 24 students of Primary 3,4 and 5 from SK St. Teresa, SK Matang Jaya, SK Agama Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan, SK St Joseph, SK Encik Buyong and SK St. Teresa, Padungan.

This programme is a collaboration project with Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tun Abdul Razak.

It is intended to give an overview of information and materials available in the Sarawak State Library which can help students to know and understand the history of Sarawak.

The invited facilitators are Suhana Sarkawi from Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Tun Abdul Razak and Samsol Bin Morshidi Bujang from Sarawak Education Department.

The students were required to do activities and discussion in groups, presentation and were introduced with the information of Sarawak’s history such as the Sarawak cultural heritage, Brooke dynasty, anticession and many more.

Apart from that, students were being briefed on how to search for library materials via OPAC systems and other services offered by the Sarawak State Library.

The session were conducted by the Assistant Librarian, Alvaena Valentine.

Other programmes that were organised in conjunction with the International Archives Day 2017 were ‘Archives Photographs: Describe Me!’, ‘History and Me!’ and ‘Old Newspaper: The Hidden History’.
