MIRI: Residents of Rumah Pee Millo at Hulu Suai are now enjoying 24-hour electricity supply under the government’s Rural Electrification Programme. Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) in a press statement yesterday said the RES project for the 10-door Rumah Pee Millo at Hulu Suai was fully energised on Wednesday following installation of meters.

Although the project was completed in 2015 as scheduled, low tension lines to supply electricity to the longhouse could only be energised once the internal home wiring was ready. The electrical installation contractors were engaged directly by the home owners themselves.

On Sept 9 this year, the contractors completed the internal home wiring works and forwarded the application for electricity supply to Sarawak Energy.

Sarawak Energy then dispatched a Mobile Registration Counter (MRC) team to Rumah Pee Millo on Oct 15 to facilitate and expedite the meter application and installation process. RES is part of the government’s rural electrification masterplan to close the gap between rural and urban development.

Electricity is a catalyst for change and is instrumental in realising Sarawak’s vision to becoming a developed state by 2030. Other than RES, the masterplan also includes other electrification schemes namely the Rural Power Supply Scheme (RPSS) and the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) which is expected to accelerate efforts towards 100 per cent electricity coverage in the state by utilising renewables like solar and micro-hydro in Sarawak’s interior.

Sarawak Energy is spearheading the initiative, working with the Ministry of Utilities Sarawak on the shared mission to light up Sarawak with stable, reliable electricity.
